What's New in Quarterdeck Mail Server 4.0.1 and 4.1
Server Changes

4.0.1 Changes:
• Corrected the problem that did not allow you to send mail from Microsoft Word or Excel.
4.1 Changes:
• Improved performance and reduced the number of "Server not found, Give Up" messages by increasing the default number of threads and allowing for the use of additional memory.
• Improved efficiency of moving, copying and deleting messages.
• Convenient single zone scanning has been added when scanning the network for other servers.
• Database updating is now allowed during zone scanning.

Compatible with new QD Mail chooser extension

QDMail Backup
Only displays error notification on the server machine if the backup failed and the status message can’t be sent.

Remote Server Connection

Server and Utility Compatibility
• Compatibility tested with Mac OS through 8.0, and machines from Apple and clone makers.
• Compatible with old QD Mail 3.6 and MS Mail clients on other machines.
• Compatible with all previous servers (Quarterdeck and Microsoft Mail) on a network.
• Not compatible with the old QD Mail (3.6) or MS Mail Chooser extension on the same machine (the Installer will replace them when you install the server).
• Not compatible with the MS Mail GW Chooser extension on the same machine. Please see the Gateway Administrator section of the Network Manager's Guide for details.
System Requirements
The Quarterdeck Mail Server requires a 68030, 68040 Mac or Power Macintosh with Mac OS System 7.5 or newer, including 7.6. It also requires AppleScript, Finder Scripting Extension and the Thread Manager, which are automatically installed with System 7.5.1 or newer. The Version 4 Server requires a minimum of 2.5 MB free RAM (it may need more memory for best performance, depending on the number of clients and database size).
Note: Please contact StarNine Technical Support if you must use an earlier version of the System Software.
Installation
Upgrading
If you are experiencing any problems with previous versions of Quarterdeck Mail or Microsoft Mail, it is recommended that you contact StarNine Technical Support for help in resolving the problems before attempting to install the 4.1 Upgrade.
You should be doing regular backups of your server data file. Before upgrading, do a special backup for additional security.
Upgrading from 2.x or 3.x servers: you must purchase Quarterdeck Mail 4.0, and install that first. The Installer will rename and move the data files if necessary. Then install this version.
Upgrading from Version 4 servers: simply decompress this archive and move the new Quarterdeck Mail Server file into your server folder. If you have aliases to the older Quarterdeck Mail Server file, be sure to replace them with aliases to this new file.
New Installations
You must purchase Quarterdeck Mail 4.0, and install that first. The Installer will rename and move the data files if necessary. Then install this version.
